Ds106 Things: Hey MTV, welcome to my crib!
Personally I love this theme! My parents basically grew in the 80s as teens/young adults so I have been listening to the music and intrigued to the style for as long as I can remember. I love the electrifying feeling the 80s brought and still bring when I listen to the music and look at dance numbers. I believe that is my favorite part of the 80’s; the dancing and music the era brought. And of course, the fashion. I have been catching up on some of my favorite 80s movies this past break, like “The Breakfast Club”, and “Pretty In Pink”.
As blockbusters and music videos (MTV) were created during this era, I think it would be cool to examine the stars that arose from these and their personas that still influences pop culture today and to learn from them. Learn as in embody the 80s pop culture by relating to what these stars symbolized ; “What would Madonna do?”, “How would Whitney Houston react to this.” Maybe it can even serve as an excuse to finally learn how to moonwalk. I feel this class should teach us to step out of our comfort zones and try new and fun things we have been afraid or doubting to try, as these stars were known to break boundaries (and history).
